Fábio Silva career
Silva started his professional career at FC Porto, moved to rival Benfica in 2015, and then came back two years later. Silva competed for the team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2018–19.
Manager Sérgio Conceição invited him up to practice with the first squad in February 2019 after he scored 20 goals in 26 games for the under-19 team.
On August 10, 2019, during a 2-1 loss at Gil Vicente, he made his Primeira Liga debut for Porto, substituting for Otávio for the final 11 minutes. At 17 years and 22 days, he became the youngest player in the club’s history to play in the league, surpassing Bruno Gama.
He defeated Rúben Neves on September 19 to become the club’s youngest player in European competitions against Young Boys in the UEFA Europa League group stage.
Six days later, he beat Serafim Pereira’s record of being the club’s youngest starter in any competition when he took the field against Santa Clara in the Taça da Liga group stage.
In the Taça de Portugal third round on October 19, Silva scored his first goal to cap off a 5-0 victory over nearby Coimbrões. With this goal, he moved one month closer to being the club’s youngest goalscorer ever, surpassing Neves.
After eight days, he defeated Famalicão 3–0 at home, breaking the record held by the same player as the youngest goalscorer in Porto’s league. He broke the club record for youngest starter in history on November 10 in a 1-0 victory over Boavista in the Derby da Invicta. The record had been maintained since Serafim’s time.
Silva made his first of three LigaPro appearances for Porto’s reserve club on February 9, 2020, starting in a 1-1 home tie with Farense.
After the league resumed after the coronavirus-imposed stoppage, he made two more appearances for Porto’s first squad as the team won the league title.
Silva signed a five-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers of the English Premier League on September 5, 2020, for a reported club-record fee of £35 million.
On September 17, 2020, he made his EFL Cup debut as a full player against Stoke City. Four days later, on September 16, he made his Premier League debut as a second-half replacement in a 1-3 home loss to Manchester City.
On November 10, 2020, Silva scored his first two goals for the under-21 Wolves club in a 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers on the road in the EFL Trophy.
He made his league debut on December 12 against Aston Villa, losing 1-0 at home. Eight days later, he scored his first league goal with a penalty kick in a 2–1 loss to Burnley on the road.
By doing this, Silva became the first player born in 2002 to score in the Premier League and also made history as the Wolves’ youngest-ever goal scorer.
Silva scored his first goal at Molineux for Wolves against West Bromwich Albion on January 16, 2021, during the first Black Country derby of the 2020–21 campaign. It was also his first goal scored from open play.
He became the second-highest-scoring Portuguese teenager in Premier League history on May 3rd at The Hawthorns after scoring his fourth goal of the 2020–21 season against West Bromwich Albion. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (eight goals) has scored more goals in the competition before turning 20.
On January 22, 2022, Silva started for the first time for Wolves in the 2021–22 Premier League against Brentford, 2-1 on the road, when Raúl Jiménez was unable to play due to injury.
On August 29, 2023, Silva scored his first goal for Wolves since May 3, 2021, in a home EFL Cup match against Blackpool. Wolves went on to win the match, 5-0.
On July 19, 2022, Silva signed a contract extension with Wolves and went on loan to the Belgian team Anderlecht for the entire season. Silva scored in his league debut on July 24, 2022, against Oostende, coming off the bench in a 2-0 victory.
Silva’s contract with Anderlecht ended on January 25, 2023, and he was loaned to PSV Eindhoven of the Eredivisie until the conclusion of the season.
It was reported in December 2023 that Silva would go on loan to Scottish team Rangers starting on January 1, 2024.
